Top Ten Tuesday #4: Books to Get into the Halloween Spirit

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I actually don't read a lot of horrors, but I'll do my best!

1. The Hound of the Baskervilles (Sherlock Holmes) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

This one was featured in a recent Follow Friday about the book I think would make a great Halloween movie! And like I said, this one isn't about violence or gore, but it seriously messes with your mind. It also doesn't help that my favorite manga series have a whole arc dedicated to this story - like a retell of some sorts. I think I got nightmares after I read that.

2. Malice (Malice, #1) by Chris Wooding

Look at the cover. And tell me it's not fitting for Halloween.
I remembered borrowing this from a friend and completely devouring it in 1st afternoon period. This is suspense, paranormal, young adult, steampunk AND graphic novel rolled into one. If you're looking for vivid descriptions of monsters that will haunt you in your sleep, I think this may be it.

3. Control Shift by Nick Manns
This won't be a popular pick (I can't even find the cover on Goodreads!) but it's the first ghost story I read, so I think it deserves a place here. Basically, it's about ghosts, war, and some serious questions about the ethics of killing people. It's also told in a teenage boy's point of view, so naturally I love it.

So obviously I've only read 3 books that is capable of scaring me. Should that be a good thing or a bad thing?Anyway, these are books that I haven't read but think will fit into Halloween well:

4. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman is a genius. The things he came up for his stories. The same goes for this one, it grabs me from the moment I read the title.

5. The Shining/Carrie/1408 or any Stephen King novel

The "King" of horrors (see what I did there?), I don't think anybody will argue about this.
I haven't read his books, but I've watched Carrie and 1408. They were pretty damn scary.

6. The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury

The cover just screams "Halloween". And I love Ray as a writer, so I'll have to read this soon!

7. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

In all the classic horrors, Frankenstein is probably my favorite: you know, the question of "Who is the monster and who is the man?" and all.

8. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

This one popped up almost everywhere during the Follow Friday I mentioned earlier, so it must be really ... Halloween-esque.

9. The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

I love the cover of this book, and it's Paranormal Fantasy, so that's a bonus for me!

10. Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann

Did I tell you that I usually judge books by their covers?

What about you? Which books did you choose to get in the Halloween spirit? Share in the comments!

I love comments! Although sometimes I can't reply to all of them, but I do read (and appreciate) each and every one :)
