Top Ten Tuesday #5: Favorite Kick-Ass Heroines

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I think I almost jumped for joy when I saw this week's prompt! Yes, I love my awesome female protagonists :)
Disclaimer: I'll be using DeviantArts in this post, so thank you to all the great artists I link to!

1. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins)

Kick-ass doesn't even come close to describing Katniss Everdeen. She hunts in the woods for her family, trades in the black market, she is the Girl on Fire, the District 12 Victor, twice Hunger Games Tribute, and the Mockingjay of a freaking Revolution. Not to mention she has random humorous moments that we can't help but laugh at. Sure, all that results in her becoming a bit... unstable, but still.

2. Kitty Jones (The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud)

(by Rinian)

You guys probably know about my favorite book (read: complete obsession) being The Bartimaeus Trilogy, and one of the reasons is Kathleen "Kitty" Jones! She doesn't play a big role until the 2nd book, but when she shows up, you can always expect some maneuver showdown - well, at least some witty remarks and searing insights.

3. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)

(By daekazu)

I think every girl who reads Harry Potter feels connected with Hermione in some ways. She is loyal, courageous, and will do anything for her friends. For the rest, I'll just leave it to Lupin: "You're the cleverest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione."

4. Holly Short (Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer)

Holly is probably one of the strongest characters I've seen in awhile. She's strong, smart, loyal, and takes no nonsense. And she's probably one of the few who can tells Artemis off - that's an achievement all by itself.

5. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)

When I met Luna, I knew that this was the person I would be if I were in Harry Potter. She is open to all possibilities, even the wildest, hardest to believe ones. And I think I got tears welling up when her room was described as having pictures of her friends with the words "FRIENDS" written again and again.

6. Arya Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin)

Of course, I haven't read the whole series. But if the TV show is anything to go by, then this girl did some pretty freaking badass stuff. And she is, what, 12 years old?

7. Scathach (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott)

(by Gaurwraith)

A look-teenaged-but-actually-ancient-old vampire (the kind that doesn't sparkle). And knows several ways of martial arts. And is friends with Joan of Arc. Kick-ass.

8. Kady Blake (Malice by Chris Wooding)

(by Lumidara)

Kady is brave and is willing to go anywhere for her friends, even to a place where people can't get out without going crazy. And did I mention that she knows hypnosis?

9. Victoria de Montardent (Secret Letters From 0 To 10 by Susie Morgenstern)

(Look at the girl in the upper right corner!)

I don't think Ernest could have described Victoria better: "Bulldozer". She shakes his whole life up, and crosses all the lines. She is sort of like the girl in the movies that we love not only for her character, but also for the idea of her.

10. Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte)

(by ol-gnom)

The one thing I had never expected when I read Jane Eyre was that it was supposed to be a love story. I've always put the romance on second priority, and focused more on her character. That said, it's no surprise that my favorite part of the story was at Lowood - for me things go downhill from there.

That's it for this week TTT! Now, just a small reminder: don't forget to check out my recap post and leave me suggestions to improve the site!

Comment below and tell me who your favorite kick-ass heroines are!
